House of Representatives to pass a 90-day extension of the federal surface transportation programs, AEM President Dennis Slater issued the following statement on behalf of U.. equipment manufacturers and the.. national grassroots campaign:.. It has been 911 days and eight extensions since the last highway bill expired.. It is a great disappointment to the nearly 21,000 supporters of the I Make America campaign, U.. equipment manufacturers, and their tens of thousands of  ...   programs from shutting down.. Because current funding expires on March 31st, there is unfortunately no choice but for Congress to pass the ninth extension of this vital national program.. But enough is enough.. The House must act immediately within this extension period to pass its highway bill and move to conference with the Senate.. As we have repeatedly said, there is no single piece of legislation that will do more to immediately create American jobs, and drive U.. economic growth and global competitiveness for the long term.. Delay must no longer be considered an acceptable option..

This week the Senate Environment Public Works Committee took up the bill known as "Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century," or MAP 21, which provides for a two-year extension of the Highway Bill.. This bill, now heading to the full Senate for consideration, is a major victory for our industry as it maintains funding at current levels.. AEM and our coalition partners were able to beat back efforts to pass a bill inflicting massive spending reductions.. AEM.. sent a letter in support.. of the bipartisan effort of the Committee to develop and approve the two-year highway bill at current funding levels..  ...   and this is from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers and this is what they write us..
