Descriptive info: I Make America and equipment manufacturers call on Congress to pass highway bill.. On behalf of U.. equipment manufacturers and I Make America's nearly 20,000 grassroots supporters nationwide,.. Association of Equipment Manufacturers.. (AEM) President Dennis Slater issued the following statement urging congressional leaders in the House and Senate to pass their respective highway bills (H.. R.. 7 and MAP-21) and move quickly to conference:.. AEM's I Make America national grassroots campaign, launched in 2010 in support of manufacturing policies that create jobs, foster economic growth and promote American competitiveness, has grown to nearly 20,000 supporters nationwide.. Starting today, AEM will be calling upon these supporters, together with our more than 850 member companies, to contact legislators, sign petitions and engage across social media to urge the House and Senate to pass their bills and quickly reach a bipartisan agreement in conference.. While we are encouraged to see that House and Senate leadership recognize the critical importance of moving infrastructure investment legislation through their chambers, the real work lies ahead.. There are significant differences in the House and Senate highway bills  ...   American jobs and sharpen our global competitiveness.. businesses are suffering and millions of Americans are still out of work.. The finish line is now in sight, and it will take the commitment of both political parties and both Houses of Congress to successfully cross it.. On behalf of America's equipment manufacturers and the tens of thousands of people they employ nationwide, today we call on Congress to work together to pass this critical legislation.. • Title: AEM | Newsroom - News Releases -- AEM and Coalition made noise in Washington and made a difference for GPS
Descriptive info: AEM and Coalition made noise in Washington and made a difference for GPS.. The.. Coalition to Save Our GPS.. and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), a founding member of the coalition, have contributed to saving GPS use in the U.. from a proposed plan by a company called LightSquared.. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a.. statement.. February 14 which recommended vacating the Conditional Waiver Order and suspension of LightSquared's Ancillary Terrestrial Component authority.. AEM and other coalition members have been concerned that LightSquared's plan could interfere extensively with technologically advanced GPS applications as those used in precision agriculture, which provide greater productivity and efficient use of inputs in modern farming.. An earlier.. eight-page letter.. to the FCC from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) said that Based on NTIA's independent evaluation of the testing and analysis performed over the last several months, we conclude that LightSquared's proposed mobile broadband network will impact GPS services and that there is no practical way to mitigate the potential interference.. As AEM.. reported early last year.. , the Federal  ...   finally conducted, the results, as reported by the NTIA, revealed that LightSquared's broadband proposal would seriously affect GPS use in agriculture, construction, aviation, etc.. AEM President Dennis Slater issued this statement:.. We are pleased to see that the FCC has finally gotten the message that LightSquared's plan interferes with GPS and is unacceptable.. AEM was a founding member of the Coalition to Save Our GPS, and it is gratifying to see the coalition's work appears to have paid off.. AEM member companies manufacture machinery for agricultural and construction applications that depend heavily on reliable GPS signals, so it was a great relief to see that the FCC has been responsive to the public outcry on this vital issue.. GPS technology is a key part of company investments in precision agriculture, productivity and safety, all of which were all in question if the FCC allowed this to go forward.. We urge the FCC to involve all stakeholders in planning for the much needed increase in rural broadband access.. AEM and its member companies will be willing participants and contributors..

  • Title: AEM | Newsroom - News Releases -- AEM statement on highway bill action February 3, 2012
Descriptive info: AEM statement on highway bill action February 3, 2012.. With the ongoing action in Washington on the House highway bill, Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) President Dennis Slater offered the following comments February 3, 2012:.. After 18 hours of debate, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved H.. 7, its five-year highway bill, early on Friday, February 3, after much partisan bickering.. Also today, the House Ways and Means Committee approved the funding to support H.. 7.. The Senate is also preparing its surface transportation bill for floor consideration possibly next week, a two-year bill championed by Senator Boxer.. In this difficult budget environment, the House bill is notable for maintaining existing levels of funding, streamlining the project approval process and having no earmarks.. There is no doubt that the how-to-fund and other issues in both the House and Senate bills are very contentious and that shortfalls still exist.. There is still  ...   the recently passed FAA aviation funding legislation, and this bipartisanship example is encouraging.. We urge our legislators to work towards passage of a long-term bill by March 31, the deadline for current stop-gap funding.. Equipment sales have improved in recent months, driven by exports and rental customers updating their fleets.. This growth is not guaranteed to be sustainable, especially with the fragile global economy.. While there is increasing pent-up demand, contractors need longer-term market certainty before they make capital investments to meet the demand.. Number two, neither bill examines the lack of strategies to meet America s overall infrastructure investment needs.. Our country s global competiveness is at stake, and our legislators must also have the political will to focus on real solutions if we are to maintain economic prosperity.. AEM and its members will be actively urging congressional leaders to expeditiously approve a highway bill.. About the Association of Equipment Manufacturers -..

The American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act will be an economic engine for job growth and global competitiveness.. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) is urging support for the highway bill scheduled for consideration by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Thursday, February 2, 2012.. AEM believes the long-awaited legislation would point the way to job creation, desperately needed infrastructure improvements, and greater national and international competitiveness for all domestic businesses.. Our manufacturers believe H.. 7 is one of the most important pieces of legislation before Congress this session for job growth and for our economic  ...   to the March 31 deadline of the current stop-gap funding, Dennis Slater, AEM president, said.. Roads, highways and bridges require long-term project planning.. The American Energy Infrastructure Jobs Act (H.. 7) provides the construction industry with the market certainty it needs to make capital investments in employees and in equipment with new technologies for improved air quality and operating efficiencies.. And in a still tenuous economy, it provides a much-needed growth engine, Slater said.. A new nationwide poll shows that most voters want this year s presidential candidates to take stronger positions on both manufacturing and infrastructure issues.. The nonpartisan.. • Title: AEM | Newsroom - News Releases -- Time for Washington to do more than talk about infrastructure and job creation
Descriptive info: 1/25/2012.. Time for Washington to do more than talk about infrastructure and job creation.. AEM statement on State of the Union address.. (AEM) President Dennis Slater issued the following statement in response to President Obama s State of the Union address:.. Last night President Obama spoke about the urgent need for growth in American manufacturing: "We have a huge opportunity, at this moment, to bring manufacturing back.. But we have to seize it.. Tonight, my message to business leaders is simple: Ask yourselves what you can do to bring jobs back to your country, and your country will do everything we can to help you succeed.. ".. America's manufacturers are working hard every day to bring jobs back to this country by investing in our workers, our facilities and our operations to strengthen and revitalize our industries.. What we need from Washington to help our efforts succeed is an infrastructure program that will help U.. manufacturers complete globally.. It is time for Congress and the Administration to pass a fully-funded highway bill and not more short-term stop gap measures.. We continue to see bipartisan rhetoric from both the Administration and members of Congress supporting job creation through infrastructure investment, but still no action has  ...   pay for much needed investment in our crumbling roads and bridges, Congress has kicked the can down the road eight different times, passing yet another six-month extension.. As our global competitors know, 21st century roads and bridges are not made six months at a time.. We also urge the President to reconsider his decision on the Keystone XL pipeline.. America s future depends on economic growth and energy security, and we cannot afford to reject the tremendous potential for both that large-scale, strategic infrastructure projects such as Keystone represent.. On the jobs front alone, the pipeline would create more than 120,000 jobs, including more than 20,000 high-wage jobs in the construction and manufacturing industries where the unemployment rate is staggering.. Republicans and Democrats agree that without a thriving manufacturing base, our nation s economy cannot improve, but they aren t doing anything serious to address this.. America s manufacturers look to Congress and the Administration to move beyond the rhetoric and begin rebuilding and modernizing America s infrastructure.. Americans deserve more than just talk, they want jobs and a crucial investment in our global competitiveness..
