    Descriptive info: Help Section: Satellite pass predictions.. This page allows you to.. predict.. satellite passes over a specified location point.. Using the Argos satellite pass prediction.. Defining a simulation period.. up to 6 months in the future, starting on the current day.. By date.. -or-.. By time in hours.. (maximum 4,320).. By number of satellite passes.. (maximum 50,000).. Choosing satellites.. From the Argos constellation.. Defining a location.. reference point over which satellite (s) will pass and simulations will be calculated.. Latitude, longitude, and altitude.. PTT or PMT.. Network station (antenna).. Defining satellite pass options.. these options increase the probability of the satellite receiving messages from the platform.. Minimum elevation.. (90 maximum).. -and/or-.. Minimum duration.. (15 minutes).. Starting the simulation.. to start the simulation, please click on the simulate button.. By date.. You can simulate satellite passes for.. up to 6 months.. in the future (from the current day) by selecting corresponding Start and End dates.. Type in the date.. of your choice in the format indicated, or.. click on the calendar icon.. to select appropriate dates (see below).. Note:.. You can change the date format by clicking on.. Preferences.. in the left menu bar.. Select.. End date.. in order to fill in this field.. Select a Start Date and/or End Date with the calendar icon.. Clik on OK once the correct data has been selected.. By time.. Instead of choosing an End date, you may prefer to simulate satellite passes.. over a certain period of time (number of hours, maximum 4,320).. To do so, select.. Simulation duration.. You must still determine a Start date, but instead of selecting an end date, you can select a.. (in hours).. If you do not choose to define a simulation period by date or time, you can select the number of satellite passes you wish to simulate.. Only satellite passes over the next six months will be calculated.. You can choose the satellites for which you want to predict passes.. Select all.. to predict pass dates and times for.. all satellites.. or click in the box next to the satellites of your choice to choose to simulate passes made only by.. one or several satellites.. We.. cannot guarantee.. that all data will be systematically received each time a satellite in our constellation passes over your platform.. You can choose to simulate the dates and times that a satellite will pass over a particular antenna, transmitting its delayed-mode data to the ground, by clicking in the circle next to.. network station.. Despite our best efforts to keep our network of real-time antennas operational at all times,.. we cannot guarantee that all of the antennas on the list provide real-time reception service (platform-satellite-antenna-processing center) at all times.. Here are some factors that could cause real-time reception to fail:.. Not all antennas are compatible with the all the Argos instruments onboard satellites,.. The antenna in question has not been programmed to receive data from the satellite that just passed over it,.. The antenna isn't operational at the time of the satellite pass.. This is why we cannot guarantee real-time reception of data, even when a satellite and a real-time antenna are in covisibility.. A satellite pass is characterized by the following elements:.. Elevation:.. The satellite's position relative to the horizon when the platform is in view.. Time:.. The number of minutes during which the satellite has the platform in view.. These parameters will impact the number of messages your platform can transmit to the satellite and the probability that the messages will be received by the satellite.. The minimum elevation you select will determine the beginning of the satellite pass.. ArgosWeb will calculate a time that corresponds to the minute the satellite rises above the minimum elevation you have selected.. We recommend a.. minimum elevation of 5.. if your platform is in a flat area ( sea level), to ensure the platform is in the satellite's line of visibility.. We recommend that you increase the minimum elevation if your platform is in a hilly area (a mountain could block the satellite's view of your platform, so you should choose a greater minimum elevation angle).. Minimum duration.. The duration of a satellite pass over a particular point varies from several minutes to 12-15 minutes maximum.. The minimum duration you select will eliminate all satellite passes that are not as long as the minimum you have selected.. An Argos message can be transmitted and received by the satellite in a matter of seconds.. Nevertheless,.. the longer the satellite is in view of your platform, the higher the probability that your messages will be received.. by the satellite..
