The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available.. Many more houses are under construction or in design.. Description.. Typically, the houses are 5,000 to 16,800 square foot homes donated by the Fisher family and Fisher House Foundation.. Each house is designed to provide 8 to 21 suites.. All are professionally furnished and decorated in the tone and style of the local region.. The houses can accommodate 16 to 42 family members.. They feature a common kitchen, laundry facilities, spacious dining room and an inviting living room with library, and toys for children.. Newest houses are 100% handicap accessible and include elevators.. A Fisher House is a temporary residence and is not a treatment facility, hospice or counseling center.. The nonprofit Fisher House Foundation administers the "Hero Miles" program in partnership with the Department of Defense in accordance with Public Law 108-375, Section 585, 2005 Defense Authorization Act, amended in 2011.. Fisher House Foundation uses frequent flyer miles that have been donated by passengers of our airline partners to provide airline tickets to support wounded, injured, and ill service members and their families who are undergoing treatment at a military or VA medical center or who are attending authorized events.. How to Donate Miles.. There are two categories of eligible recipients:.. Wounded, injured, and ill service members on approved leave may be given a round trip airline ticket for a trip  ...   undergoing treatment at an authorized medical center.. Airline Partners.. Fisher House is proud to partner with the following major airlines in support of our wounded, injured and ill service men and women and their families:.. Airtran Airlines.. Alaska Airlines.. American Airlines.. Delta Airlines.. Frontier Airlines.. United Airlines.. US Airways.. Please note our agreements with individual airlines only permit airline tickets for wounded, injured, or ill service members and their families..
