  • Title: GardenOntario: District 1
Descriptive info: District 1.. REPORTS.. CONTACTS.. OHA LOG-IN.. View OHA Site.. District 1, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell, Stormont.. District 1 is very proud to be hosting the 108th OHA Convention in Cornwall in 2014! For more information please visit the Convention page.. District Director: Pat Stachon.. District #1 is the most easterly and southerly of all the districts within the OHA.. My name is Patricia Stachon and I live on a sheep and cattle farm in Metcalfe, Ontario.. I retired from community health nursing during the last century in 1997, and took up gardening with a vengeance.. I am short on years and years of experience but love my garden passionately.. In 1998 I joined the Russell and District Horticultural Society, and became a Master Gardener too.. I think I am making up for lost time.. It is an honour and a pleasure to represent District #1.. 2013 Message from District #1.. Winter is a few weeks away as I write this, but outside it feels as if it is just around the corner.. I hope everything is done in my garden for the winter, if it isn t, it will have to wait until spring.. It has been a busy year for us in the District readying for the Convention 2014 in Cornwall.. We have met almost monthly at the Maxville Seniors Centre Library and I think we are  ...   to some wonderful potlucks.. Many thanks to those who have invited me, I always enjoy the speakers and your tasty dinners.. Last April, Martintown hosted the AGM in the Community Centre, so beautifully decorated by the members.. Good food too! Ginny Blair President of Martintown is an expert putting on AGMs as she has been the head of their Society for a long time.. Congratulations Ginny!.. In 2014 the AGM will take place at the Convention, Thursday late afternoon July 17th in the OHA Board Room NAV Centre.. It will be a business meeting only and should take about an hour, but more about this later as time draws nearer.. Until then, I wish you a wonderful gardening year, and thank you for Keeping Ontario Beautiful, for becoming involved in your Society meetings, participating in all the beautiful garden tours, caring for all the village garden cenotaphs, libraries, and Legion Halls, teaching our younger members that peas are not grown in plastic bags, frozen, and having a share in community projects.. Hope to see all Society members attend our very first Convention, even for just a day.. Your Convention Committee has volunteered numerous hours to present this exciting conference for July 18, 19 and 20th, 2014.. Please support us, you will not regret it.. Yours in gardening,.. Patricia Stachon,.. District Director #1.. Ontario Horticultural Association.. Last Updated: 2013-12-04..
