The floral emblem of the society is the Daisy.. The Eganville and Area Horticultural Society meets at 7.. 30pm on the third Monday of each month (except July and August).. The meeting is at St.. Luke s Lutheran Church Hall, at the corner of Jane and Hartwig Sts.. in Eganville, and new members are always welcome.. The Society was formed as the "Eganville Horticultural Society" in 1955, and has carried the mandate of Beautification in the Village since that time.. The Society was formed with 31 members who each paid a membership fee of $1.. 00.. In 2012, the name was officially changed to the "Eganville and Area Horticultural Society" to better reflect the location of the membership.. That year, there were 86 members, paying $10 (single) and $15 (family).. Each meeting begins with a business and informational period of about 20 minutes, after which the featured speaker makes a presentation of approximately 30 to 40 minutes, followed by a few questions.. The evening finishes with doorprizes and a social hour, including refreshments.. Our planting in the village consists of 12 large cement planters, two beds in Centennial Park, as well as several private areas throughout the Village.. Fund-raising is accomplished by a Spring Bazaar & Plant Sale, and a Harvest Auction in September as well as some fundraising at the Christmas Dinner.. Contributions from the businesses in Eganville are used to offset the costs of these community beautification efforts.. in 2012, the society launched a contest for the Garden of the Month.. Specific criteria were set, nominations were invited, a panel of judges was created and winners were declared for the months of June, July, August and September.. Garden Tour Crooked Rapids Campground to view the lovely gardens built and maintained by owner (and previous Hort Society President) Joan Lett..     Descriptive info: Elmira Horticultural Society.. Elmira and District Horticulture Society was founded in 1900 and at that time the local newspaper expressed concern that the community might not support a Horticulture Society.. After 113 years and a membership of 221, the society has done quite well.. The Society members plant and maintain flowerbeds at Woolwich Community Services; Gibson Park; Memorial Park; South Welcome Sign; North Welcome Sign; Union Cemetery; Lions Park; Woolwich Visitors Centre; Floradale beds and planters, Bristow Park Garden and Breslau Gardens.. We also help to subsidize the hanging baskets in the down town core.. The Society also holds educational meetings on the 3.. rd.. Monday of the month.. Everyone is welcome to listen to guest speakers that provide interesting and informational topics of discussion, followed by coffee/tea and light snacks..
