  • Title: GardenOntario: Norland & District Horticultural Society
Descriptive info: Norland & District Horticultural Society.. Welcome to the Norland Horticultural Society.. The Norland and District Horticultural Society was instituted on May 7, 1957, with 47 members.. The first President was Gordon Campbell and the Treasurer was Mrs.. Rotha Bryant, who served in that capacity for the next forty years.. The Societyâ s first project focused on the area between Highway 35 and the bank of the Gull River in the middle of Norland.. Over a period of some years, a mess of logs, stumps, fallen trees, weeds and debris was transformed into a park with evergreens, flowering crab trees, rockeries and benches.. In 1985, the park became the site of a beautiful stone cenotaph and a flag pole.. Remembrance Day services were held in this location every year.. In 1989, a crimson maple was planted in the park in memory of John  ...   a Christmas Lighting contest.. 1987 saw the publication of a â Helpful Hintsâ book.. There was an annual flower show and a plant sale as well.. Fundraising was an important activity, long with outings of various kinds, meetings with interesting speakers and fine pot luck meals.. Many of these traditions are carried on today with the present members of the Society.. In 2010, they added a â Garden Beautiful Contestâ that helped to recognize the gardening expertise of members and residence within the district.. This has been a successful event for the past three years.. Norland Horticultural Society just celebrated their 55th Anniversary in September 2012.. They continue to endeavor to make Norland an attractive community to live in or to visit, within the City of Kawartha Lakes.. • Title: GardenOntario: Norwood & District Horticultural Society
Descriptive info: Norwood & District Hort Society.. President s Message 2013.. As my term as President draws to a close, and I look back at all that we have accomplished, I realize that none of it would have been possible without the help and support of a wonderful Board of Directors.. In addition to the Board, there are many members who have contributed their time at various events, making them the success we have come to expect from our Society.. We had 5 wonderful speakers, including our own Dianne & Gary Westlake, that provided a wealth of gardening information and advice.. In March we cancelled our meeting due to an ice storm that was to have hit the area.. As luck would have it, we still got to have Vickie Whitney come to speak as she filled in at the last minute when our April speaker cancelled.. We also had our Members Panel with a lively question & answer session.. Due to a rain out, our June Pot Luck was held at  ...   Auction was lots of fun with Larry Bell & Doreen Allen-Bell working together to auction the items.. Although we didn t meet our goal of increased membership, we increased our exposure in the community through our participation at the Warkworth Lilac Festival.. It was held the last weekend in May where we had a booth & sold the most of the remainder of our plants from the plant sale.. We also participated with the town of Norwood in County Days at Lang on July 28.. An Application Form was created which can be placed around the various communities to advertise our society.. The Town of Norwood has asked for a supply to put in their display case.. They have also offered to feature our meetings in their Community Booklet.. A Norwood & District Horticultural Society Manual was put together describing the work & how to of each committee.. We wouldn t have a Horticultural Society if it weren t for all of the wonderful gardeners we have.. Good Gardening in 2014..

  • Title: GardenOntario: Orillia Horticultural Society
Descriptive info: People, plants, and pride growing together.. The Orillia Horticultural Society was founded on March 23, 1888.. at a meeting in the Town Hall.. Officers and Directors were elected.. Closely associated with agriculture, the Society's early competitions included vegetables, fruit as well as flowers.. This was not surprising as most of the town residents would have had vegetables as well as small orchards in their  ...   gardening, development of home grounds, furthering civic beautification, aid in protection of forest, wildflowers, etc.. 119 years later, with added enjoyment and educational objectives, we are still active in the promotion of horticultural activities in the community.. Interesting and informative guest speakers and workshops provide our members with the tools to assist them in the creation and activities in their own gardens.. Last Updated: 2013-04-29..
