Location: Keeler Centre, Colborne.. Doors opened at 9 a.. m.. for registration and set up of competitions, displays banners, and, of course coffee and refreshments.. Promptly at 10 a.. Rose Odell, Director, called the meeting to order.. Cathy Galt, President of Cramahe, welcomed us to Colborne on this wet day.. Rose told us all a bell ringer joke and then thanked Cramahe for the beautiful centrepieces.. She welcomed Nancy Serrick who is the director of District 5.. REPORT FROM O.. H.. A.. BOARD MEETING CONVENTION.. Rose gave a synopsis of the written reports in the grey society folders:.. - Appendix A-1 Items to note for the societies from the October OHA Board Meeting.. - Appendix A-2 Updates for Directors, OHA Board Meetings.. - Appendix A-3 Getting Unstuck: Common Problems in Meetings and Some Solutions.. The OHA Membership Trophy was won by district 3 in 2012 and Rose has challenged our district be the winner for 2013.. There has been a change to OHA policy of having a 2.. nd.. V.. P.. President James Graham, 1.. st.. Vice President Jeff Blackadar, 2.. Vice President Suzanne Hanna were voted in this year, however, at this time Suzanne is the last 2.. Also included in the folder is the Convention 2013 report Appendix B and the OHA 2012 Annual Report.. DISTRICT 4.. Diane Hearse gave a short presentation on what their society used the district youth grant for.. Full report is attached (Appendix D) Societies that have a youth programme that have received the grant are Grafton, Cobourg and Bobcayeon.. We held a draw for the youth grant for next year with these society s names: FenelonFalls, Minden, Omemee, Ennismore.. Omemee won the draw and will report on what they used their funds for at the June Celebration Event.. - News4You info.. due Nov.. 10 with publication available Nov.. Ontario..  ...   O.. He said that when looking at historical information, unless printed, it may not be right.. The first society was formed in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1792.. In 1834 the Patriot newspaper recorded that Toronto H.. S.. was formed.. Members were predominantly prominent men in the early years.. Macoun apples (supplied for us to taste today) were named after M.. T.. Macoun the early founder of the O.. Macoun was a winner of the Carter medal.. Other founders in 1906 were Henry John Snelgrove who promoted civic improvements; H.. B.. Cowan who is the most important founder and whose picture is in the back of the history book, and Franklin (school named after him in Toronto and where Riverdale H.. meets).. Premiums were given to members; i.. e bulbs, seeds, etc.. as part of membership.. In 1937 the trillium emblem was chosen.. Because of the O.. the emblem for Ontario is the trillium and the lack of billboards along the highways is a result of lobbying by the O.. We became district 4 in 1927.. Malcolm was thanked and presented with a gift basket by Sharron MacDonald incoming President of Cramahe.. UNFINISHED BUSINESS.. Joan Harding has rack cards and advance tickets ($7.. 00) for the Peterborough Garden Show which takes place April 11 13, 2014.. Rose indicated that the district has an O.. booth there and volunteers are needed to man the booth.. Society bookmarks, event advertising, etc.. should be given to her at the SGT for the table..
