On November 25th, students at Gardiner Regional Middle School had day-long activities aimed at bringing awareness to the topic of bullying as well as a variety of activities/presentations designed to increase student aspirations.. The morning consisted of students meeting with their advisor groups (Consisting of students in grades six, seven, and eight) prior to three 45 minute sessions.. These sessions included discussions about bullying with Todd Sanders (Principal), Stephen Marois (Bikers Against Bullying) and Airyn Jewett (Gardiner Area High School Student/Award winning P.. A.. creator).. A presentation about aspirations, diversity and perseverance with motivational speaker Chuck Nygen.. The final morning section was a Career Fair featuring a variety of professionals from within the M.. D.. #11 communities.. Healthy Communities of the Capital Area was recently awarded a $100,000 USDA Farm to School Grant to increase access to local foods in school meals.. Renee Page, from Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA), will work with MSAD 11 Gardiner Area Schools and RSU 38 Maranacook Area Schools to link them to existing online local food buying clubs, the Kennebec Local Food Initiative in Gardiner, and Maranacook Local Foods Buying Club in Readfield.. This effort will help to develop resources and processes to streamline ordering, delivery, and food processing, which are known barriers to sourcing local foods..
