The Westminster Foundation for Democracy is pleased to introduce a.. Handbook on Parliamentary Ethics and Conduct: A Guide for Parliamentarians.. The aim of this Handbook is to provide a tool for parliamentarians to develop and strengthen ethics regimes in their own parliaments as well as to promote best practice in this area.. The Handbook was first released on 10 November 2009 at the Conference of States Party to the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).. This Handbook is just one outcome of a WFD project with the Arab Region Parliamentarians Against Corruption (ARPAC) and the Global Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) on ‘Political Ethics and  ...   French and Spanish translations of the Handbook will be made available soon.. WFD would like to thank GOPAC and ARPAC for their collaboration on this project and the members of the Global Task Force on Parliamentary Ethics and Conduct who led the work on developing the tool, as well as Greg Power for his invaluable expertise.. Women members of parliament and representatives from civil society organisations in Province Orientale, DRC, attended a two-day workshop in July, held as part of WFD's three year programme of support.. The focus of the workshop, delivered by Mrs Pelagie Ebeka (pictured), a lawyer and trainer from Kinshasa, was on women gaining skills in understanding the country's legal codes.. The aim was to enable women to develop informed policy-papers for submission to the Provincial Assembly.. It followed a similar workshop supported by WFD, in late-January 2013, which considered how women could build practical skills in advocacy and develop ways in which to work closely with MPs on gender-based policy issues.. Empowering women from the province to engage more effectively with the Assembly by working with,  ...   for the Assembly's staff, held in Kisangani on the 16-17 of July (see photo below).. Caption:.. Twenty members of staff from the Provincial Assembly of the Province Orientale attend a WFD supported workshop on IT training in July.. Just this month WFD supported another two workshops, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), for the RCPP, on legislative drafting and the province's devolution process.. The workshops were held as part of a meeting of the General Assembly of the RCPP, held this year for the first time in Katanga Province, which saw members from seven of the country's 11 provinces attend, as well as representatives of the Senate and the National Assembly.. The meeting of the General Assembly of the RCPP, this year held for the first time ever in Katanga Province, was supported by WFD and UNDP..
