Find out about other.. Arts Organizations.. on our Linkspage.. Approaching Galleries.. from WMG's Exhibiting Professionalism Manual.. When approaching a gallery you should familiarize yourself with the work they show.. If you live in the city where the gallery is located, try to attend between three and six different exhibits in one year before deciding if your work fits their direction.. Example: if your work is representational don't send it to a gallery that specializes in abstract art.. If the gallery is out of your area, research it by visiting the website each month and checking out the new exhibit and reading reviews in regional and national art publications.. We don't believe that you should bring your packet or your actual work to a gallery owner without an invitation.. The proper method is to send:.. a disk or slide sheet (check to see if guidelines are posted on the website) of approximately 16 consistent works (think- a show).. an image inventory sheet.. a brief cover letter stating your interest in exhibiting at the gallery.. your statement about the work you are sending.. resume.. reviews.. self-addressed stamped envelope with proper postage (if you wish your materials to be returned.. ).. Be patient! You might not hear a response for three months to one year so make sure you have duplicate slides.. We feel that an artist needs to have a strong direction and commitment to their art before she is ready to approach a commercial gallery.. Do not be premature in the approach stage; wait until your work and your attitude can live up to the responsibilities required at this stage of your career.. Expect rejection as part of the process.. Don't give up because successes are sure to come if you have sustained commitment and are serious about being an artist.. As in any profession, investing your time and your money in your art is an essential step in becoming an artist who will be taken seriously.. Overcoming Artist's Block.. Join an artists' group to be inspired, share your work, thoughts, ideas, or give feedback to others.. WMG offers a free.. Her Group.. art session for members every fourth Sunday of the month from 1 to 4 p.. except in December.. Interact with other WMG members.. This a a warm, creative and inspiring community.. Be part of it!.. Regularly visit artists' studios and/or galleries.. View artwork.. Online.. , by those who have exhibited at WMG in the past, or go through art books and art magazines.. If possible watch other artists as they create their work.. Have an area, no matter how small, with a card table, chair, paper, canvas, paints, brushes, etc.. always ready whenever the creative urge comes over you.. Just put something down, a line, a scribble, a painted form, a little here and there, to keep you connected to your creative spirit.. Take photos of interesting topics, or cut out images from magazines that look interesting to you, and incorporate them in your paintings or drawings, and let them guide you.. Let us know what you are doing to get the creative juices flowing.. You may email us at gallery@womanmade.. org for any input or questions.. Thank you.. Descriptive info: Cameron Anderson.. Martyred.. bronze and human hair.. 18 x 9 x 2.. I explore both the oppression women face in society and their desperate fight against it.. Linking these two opposing forces create work that brings women s issues to light in an attempt to defeat them.. As a result, my work is at once poetic and disturbing.. Working with bronze, a traditionally male-dominated material, enables me to juxtapose material and subject in order to raise questions about the lack of importance placed on the struggles women face..
