Greetings!.. Welcome to our Fall 2007 Newsletter updating you about news, exhibitions, events and calls for art at Woman Made Gallery (WMG).. We would love to hear your comments and suggestions.. First, let me share recent Gallery activities with you.. Though funding for the Illinois Arts Council was recently decreased by 30%, WMG is fortunate to have received an adjusted preliminary recommendation of a $7,120.. 00 grant.. Because the arts are always in danger of being cut from government budgets, we urge you to write your state representatives and let them know how important the arts are to you and your community.. Get involved and visit.. www.. artsalliance.. org/adleg.. shtml.. to speak out, take action and raise awareness.. This first quarter of our fiscal year, the gallery received a generous gift of $10,000 from an Anonymous Donor and a $1,000 donation from our Advisory Board Member, Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk, in support of our work for women artists.. Membership is steadily increasing and we received 44 new and 119 renewal memberships from July 1 to September  ...   part by a grant from the Hugh M.. Hefner Foundation.. On August 25th the gallery honored its members and volunteers with a warm and wonderful Recognition Brunch.. Without them, much of the important work WMG provides would go unfulfilled.. Two examples of this are the valuable work of Marty Bash who has helped with volunteer coordination for more than two years, as well as membership and editing, and Karen Rechtschaffen, who volunteers at the Gallery regularly.. I extend my deepest gratitude to the WMG board, staff, volunteers and supporters for their productive service and vision for WMG.. Beate C.. Minkovski.. Executive Director.. Her successful academic accomplishments followed twenty-three years of a life as a home maker, wife and mother of five children, squeezing in wage-paying jobs which included night-shift factory work, waitressing and sales positions.. At the urgings of her children, the oldest then twenty-two and the youngest ten years old, she returned to finish her art education in 1988 which had begun from 1962 to 1965 in Bremen, Germany.. Still trying to satisfy the demands of having a family and doing her own art work, Beate gives unlimited time to the growing endeavor called Woman Made Gallery which has evolved into an ever hungry project with unlimited possibilities.. Incorporated since July 1992 it has received its tax exempt status in 1993 and proves itself to be a very needed addition to the Chicago art world.. The gallery hosts monthly art exhibitions with a variety of themes, poetry and performance events, educational programs for young girls and offers a variety of work shops.. With the help of co-director, artist Janet Bloch, Woman Made Gallery is providing for the needs of the family of women a long overdue service.. Model 12A.. 0 -.. Web Sites to Go.. Product..
