Descriptive info: Fire Chief.. Michael Riel.. We continue to see exciting times for the fire district !.. In 2013, we improved services in a number of ways.. We completed the hiring process for three new full time career positions.. Job offers were made and accepted.. We welcomed back former Firefighters Ryan Evers and Josh Spellman who had both been members of the East Valley FD.. We also welcomed as part of our team Michael Stevens an energetic young man from Snohomish Fire District 22.. Their orientation and start date was March 15, 2013.. On April 1, 2013, we began 24 hour 7 days a week coverage.. Engine Company staffing began working 48 / 96 hour shifts (2 days on shift and 4 days off).. This 24 / 7 coverage.. proved to provide service with a more consistent and reliable initial response capability.. In our 2014 Budget we proposed to continue improvement of coverage with the addition of 3 career personnel.. The addition of these personnel will move us from a 2 man engine company to 3 man company during our 24 / 7 coverage..  ...   Testing Network.. Our step 2 process then narrowed the applications to 12 candidates, based on identified requirements.. The step 3 result from the final interviews and physical testing provided the final three personnel.. Position 1 was filled by Sean McDonald formerly with Snohomish Fire District 26.. Position 2 is filled by Victor Nelson from Snohomish Fire District 22 and Position 3 is filled by Eric Love from North County Regional Fire Authority.. Yakima County Fire District 4 will continue to rely on its paid-on-call response personnel commitments and efforts for providing services.. These staffing changes will reinforce the current coverage, significantly improve response times, and will fill any gaps that could occur with the ever increasing call volumes and demands.. In 2012 the district responded to 1115 Incidents.. I would like to thank all of our personnel, their families, fire commissioners’ and tax payers who make our service possible..
