  • Title: “I refuse to be stigmatized” – The story of our sister Veena
Descriptive info: This was still in early days of HIV research: where nothing much was known about it- except that it had no cure.. Yet, she disagreed on how society regarded victims of the red ribbon, as she called them.. On one hand, they were stigmatized; HIV was sexualized, with the government labelling sexual promiscuity as a major factor for infection, it was ineveitable that her character come under public scrutiny.. And at the other end of the spectrum, lay the newly emerging trend of misplaced sympathy.. Veenadhari severely opposed this approach of NGOs and charities that took a macabre, death-awaits-you-now shade.. It is not HIV that one needs to fear, but the threat is from the section that turned the fear of HIV into a money making industry, she wrote in an article for.. Vikrama.. “Most of the AIDS awareness campaigns are nothing but a well planned conspiracy.. They project the disease as if it s a death certificate, in order to gain economic benefit.. They purposefully hide the optimistic points from the HIV victims.. She protested the commercialization of the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) and demanded that it be provided to everyone free of cost.. Veenakka (.. akka:.. sister) quickly became a household name in Karnataka.. She appeared on television debates, radio waves and wrote profusely in almost all of the newspapers in Karnataka.. Throughout her campaign, she portrayed herself as an example..  ...   and children across Karnataka.. In recognition of her service to the society the government of Karnataka conferred its highest honor, the.. Rajyotsava Award.. in November 2005.. Veenadhari organized several counselling camps and awareness talks.. Hundreds and thousands came- some just to glimpse at her smile that had vehemently walked over social judgment and stigma.. Veena never needed sympathy- instead she forced a vitality upon grim faces that had resigned themselves to death.. In a short time, she had become a friend, a confidante and a sister to hundreds of scared and hopeless souls.. She was a spark of light for the lower and middle-classes, especially in rural Karnataka.. She was hope, and a promise of a better life.. She travelled across the length and breadth of Karnataka tirelessly.. Her long hours took toll on her body as she came down with pneumonia.. An account published in.. Hai Bangalore!.. by noted author Ravi Belagere, a long-time associate of Veenadhari, describes how the day before her demise, she had vividly expressed her excitement to go speak at an awareness campaign the following week.. Veenadhari passed away from multiple-organ failure on November 2, 2007 in Bangalore.. Her brain-child the.. Karavali Positive Women s and Children s Network.. continues her mission of spreading awareness and eliminating ostracization of HIV positive people in Karnataka.. Suraj Prasad.. III Semester, B.. • Title: Seminar on Nature Conservation and Awareness
Descriptive info: By this we mean that the emphasis was laid more on protecting little creatures in our domestic space and area.. Mr.. Koshy laid emphasis on protecting snakes.. He said we all are interconnected by common bonds laid by nature.. We all breathe the same air so it becomes our responsibility to protect trees and plants.. Also the entire ecosystem is symbiotic in nature.. To maintain environment there has to be a continuous exchange of energy and information.. Human beings are actually a universe of bacteria and virus.. We should overcome the dipping point beyond which our greed kills nature.. He said we all have to be aware of the nature and its concepts, we must appreciate nature, care for it and finally we and our future generations will flourish in the lush shade of Mother Nature.. He said there are many organization working for protecting, saving and rehabilitating the animals found generally in the cities like monkeys, rabbits, snakes dogs etc, one of such organization is “People for Animals”.. Snakes were quoted as the first line of defense for humans because they are the source of many vaccinations and are responsible for killing many agricultural pests like rats etc.. 95% of snakes are non-poisonous.. In  ...   rehabilitating volunteers and organizations have a significant impact on our planet and its people, introducing them to the visionary world where all can live and breathe in harmony.. The Helpline numbers for animal rehabilitation in Bangalore are- 9242996015, 9980339880, 80-28603986, 80-28604767.. Prof.. Vaishali Singh.. Dept.. of MBA.. Cancer Awareness on Campus Renowned Cancer Pharmacologist lectures on latest trends in Oncology.. http://rubbishbegone.. co.. uk/domestic-services/furniture-disposal/.. Lucas.. Very nice idea! I believe most of the harm we do is because of ignorance.. If there are more people like Mr.. Prem Koshy, then we might have a chance to spread knowledge about our surroundings.. Sadly most people just carry on with their lives, oblivious to how nature functions.. See something they don t like? Squish it.. This is not the way.. As for the pests, I absolutely agree.. Here in the UK, near London, there aren t man snakes.. Which is the main reason for infestations.. Recently I was conducting some.. garden clearance.. and found an old armoire in the shed.. I was really surprised to find a rat nest there.. Wasn t beautiful.. Anyway, just wanted to give a perfect example on how species interact and depend on each other.. Cheers and good luck with the misson!.. Regards,..
