For more than 20 years, the Red Hot Organization has been inviting iconic artists to record music to raise money and awareness to fight HIV/AIDS around the world.. Now, Amplify and Red Hot are turning this music including songs from U2 and Wu-Tang Clan to Willie Nelson and The National over to a new generation of artists for the Red Hot+ video contest.. Red Hot+ is an opportunity for young artists and filmmakers.. to explore our unique experiences growing up with and being impacted by HIV and AIDS.. More than two decades after the HIV/AIDS crisis began,.. our generation has its own stories to tell.. Love stories and elegies, tales of quiet defiance, stigma, and public confrontation.. Through short films and PSAs, the Red Hot+ contest aims to provide the catalyst (and the soundtrack) for a new conversation about HIV and AIDS.. The winning videos will be the centerpiece of an online marketing campaign for World AIDS Day 2011 (which will use Facebook and YouTube ads and promotions on numerous websites) and will be used by national, state, and campus groups to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS in the U.. S.. and around the world.. It's time to take a new look at HIV and AIDS through a contemporary lens.. This is about young people.. It's about you.. It's about Red Hot + us.. See the full rules and entry guidelines.. here.. Categories:.. (I) SHORT FILM: No longer than 10 minutes in length.. Must address HIV and/or AIDS either overtly and/or thematically.. With commentary and activism on topics ranging from politics to pop culture, from sex education to LGBT equality, from storytelling to campus organizing, Amplify reaches more than one million people each year.. Amplify is a place to come together for a larger cause – the movement that we, as young people, have to lead.. No one else is going to do it for us.. And that's just fine, because we've already taken matters into our own hands.. Amplify is a project of Advocates for Youth, a DC-based nonprofit that champions efforts that help young people make informed and responsible decisions about their reproductive and sexual health.. RED HOT ORGANIZATION.. The Red Hot Organization is the leading international organization dedicated to fighting AIDS through pop culture.. Since 1989, Red Hot has produced fourteen groundbreaking albums, related television programs, and media events incorporating the talents of leading performers, visual artists, producers, and directors to raise funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS.. To date, these efforts have donated more than 10 million dollars for AIDS relief around the world.. Red Hot's ongoing work as a pro-social production company that artists trust with their creative work sets it apart from most charitable groups.. By producing artist-driven projects that integrate elements from music, film, and other arts to both entertain and educate, Red Hot has broken down the traditional barriers between education, fundraising, and entertainment.. While marketing these AIDS-awareness related products in music and the arts, Red Hot has also raised urgently-needed funds for critical areas of AIDS research and education.. Grants are awarded in keeping with the priorities of the epidemic in cooperation with existing AIDS organizations, such as the National Minority AIDS Council, ensuring that scarce monies will be used to their best effect.. Revenues from the sale of our albums and videos in foreign countries remain within each country to help support local AIDS prevention and relief.. • Title: REDHOT+ | Learn the Issues - Red Hot+ HIV/AIDS Video Contest
Descriptive info: Did You Know?.. What is HIV?.. Living Positive.. Worldwide, 41% of all new infections occur in young people under age 25.. In the United States, the rate of new infections among young men of color who have sex with men has almost doubled since 2001.. Of the 11.. 8 million HIV-infected youth worldwide, over seven million are female.. Less than one third of young people worldwide know how to protect themselves from HIV.. Young people around the world are committed to fighting this epidemic at all levels by demanding resources from our governments; by working to change social stigma that creates barriers to prevention; by being responsible in our own personal behaviors; and by breaking the silence and starting new cultural conversations about HIV and AIDS.. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus transmitted through contact with an infected person's blood or sexual fluids.. It can also be transmitted from a mother to her child in the womb or through breast milk.. No matter what your identity, if you have unprotected sex you are at risk for HIV.. HIV causes  ...   treatments though often expensive are enabling many people with HIV and/or AIDS to healthy, happy lives.. Yet, after almost three decades of research, scientists still have not found a cure for the virus.. We know that for many, HIV isn't a death sentence and that with medications, HIV positive young people can remain active and healthy.. Still, living HIV positive comes with challenges challenges that are compounded by myths and biases in our culture and by outmoded, medically groundless laws and policies, at home and overseas, that ignore HIV+ young people.. As long as there is no cure for HIV, it is a part of all of our lives.. This generation doesn't need to hang on to outmoded ideas that stigmatize HIV positive people we're smarter than that.. And we'll demand our schools, peers, and governments be smarter than that too.. Click below for more information about how HIV is transmitted; condoms and condom use; and getting tested.. This information is not intended as medical advice.. Speak to a health care professional if you have questions about a medical condition..

  • Title: REDHOT+ | About HIV - Red Hot+ HIV/AIDS Video Contest
Descriptive info: ABOUT HIV.. How is HIV transmitted?.. HIV is transmitted through direct contact with blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk.. People get the virus by:.. Exchanging blood, semen, and vaginal secretions through vaginal, oral, or anal intercourse with someone who has HIV.. During vaginal intercourse, the risk of becoming infected is higher for women than men, because HIV is more easily transmitted from man to woman.. Sharing needles or syringes used for injecting drugs, medicine, tattooing, or ear piercing with someone who has HIV.. Being born to a mother who has the virus.. (HIV can be passed to a fetus through the umbilical cord while it is still inside the mother, through contact with vaginal fluids and blood during birth or through breast milk.. HIV is not transmitted by:.. Touching, talking to, or sharing a home with a person who is HIV infected or has AIDS.. Sharing utensils, such as forks and spoons, used by someone with HIV infection or AIDS.. Using swimming pools, hot tubs, drinking fountains, toilet seats, doorknobs, gym equipment, or telephones used by people with HIV infection or AIDS.. Having someone with HIV or AIDS hug, kiss, spit, sneeze, cough, breathe, sweat, or cry on you.. Being bitten by mosquitoes.. Donating blood in countries like the U.. where a new needle is used for every donor.. In the U.. , donated blood is always screened for HIV so the risk of infection from a blood transfusion is very, very low.. How can people protect themselves from HIV?.. Abstinence (not having vaginal, oral, or anal sex) is the only 100% effective method of protection from HIV.. However, those who are sexually active or thinking of becoming sexually active can take steps to reduce their risk of acquiring the virus.. Having a long-term mutually.. MONOGAMOUS.. relationship with only one partner who has been tested and is known to be uninfected can provide protection from HIV.. Condoms have been rated highly effective by the CDC at preventing the transmission of HIV.. Using a latex condom for every act of oral, anal, or vaginal sex can significantly reduce the risk of acquiring HIV.. It is never a good idea to share needles, syringes, or any kind of sharp object for cutting, tattooing, or piercing.. How does HIV testing work?.. HIV tests can tell if someone has been infected with HIV.. When HIV infection occurs, the body develops antibodies to the virus.. The HIV test checks to see if the body is making these antibodies.. It doesn't test for AIDS.. There are  ...   behaviors that put them at risk of HIV infection.. Maybe they are starting a new relationship and have decided to get tested together.. Whatever the case, here are some of the reasons people should consider getting tested for HIV.. If they have:.. had sexual intercourse (vaginal, oral, or anal) without a condom.. learned that a partner was not monogamous.. have been sexually assaulted.. had a condom break.. shared needles or syringes to inject drugs (including steroids) or for body piercing, tattooing, or any other reason.. had multiple sexual partners.. found out that a partner has shared needles.. learned that a past or current partner is HIV positive.. discovered that a partner has been exposed to HIV.. had a recent diagnosis of another sexually transmitted infection (STI).. learned they are pregnant.. What If the Test Is Positive?.. If someone has tested positive for HIV, there are other tests a doctor can do to see whether HIV is progressing, and whether it's wise to start taking HIV medications.. For most people, if HIV treatment is not started when their doctor recommends it (i.. e.. , when their CD4 count is low or their viral load is high), eventually their immune system will weaken to the point that they may develop life-threatening health problems.. If the diagnosis is recent, it can also be incredibly beneficial to seek out support, get help from a local HIV organization and connect with other HIV-positive people.. An HIV diagnosis is serious, but with modern medical care, it is possible to live many years even decades after a diagnosis of HIV.. Adapted from The Body.. http://www.. thebody.. com/content/art49930.. html.. What If the Test Is Negative?.. A negative HIV test means the test has not detected HIV antibodies.. But, if the person has been exposed to HIV in the last six months, their body may not have made enough HIV antibodies to show up yet.. In that case they should get tested again in a three months.. Going forward, they should also take steps to reduce their risk of contracting HIV, including abstinence, partner reduction, and/or using condoms.. Where can I learn more about HIV prevention, testing, and treatment?.. Visit these websites to learn more about HIV:.. www.. cdc.. gov/HIV.. - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s information on HIV.. com.. - A resource on HIV and AIDS, including resources for HIV positive people.. com/index/hotlines.. - HIV/AIDS hotlines and organizations.. amplifyyourvoice.. - An online activism community for youth working in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights..

  • Title: REDHOT+ | Condoms - Red Hot+ HIV/AIDS Video Contest
Descriptive info: About Condoms.. How are condoms used correctly?.. Talk to your partner about safer sex.. Then, follow these steps for correct male condom use:.. Go to the store or health clinic and buy condoms.. Make sure you check the expiration date on the box! The most common kind of condom is made out of latex.. But if you or your partner is allergic to latex, you can also get condoms made out of polyurethane.. Lambskin condoms do not protect against HIV.. When you are ready to have sex, check the expiration date on the individual condom packet.. Once the penis is erect, open the condom package with your fingers.. Don't use your teeth, or any sharp object, because you might accidentally break the condom!.. Squeeze the tip of condom with your fingers and place the rolled condom on the head of the penis.. Leave a half-inch space at the tip of it to collect semen.. Hold the tip of condom and unroll until the penis is completely covered.. If the condom doesn't unroll easily it is probably upside down.. If it is upside down, then remove the condom, throw it away, and try again using a new condom.. After ejaculation, while the penis is still erect, hold the condom at the base of the penis and carefully remove the condom without spilling any semen.. Wrap the condom in tissue, or tie it in a knot and throw  ...   the outer genitalia from infection.. For rectal use the small ring should be removed.. Place the condom over the erect penis.. The condom will be inserted with your partner's penis.. Be sure the penis goes directly into the large ring to preclude unprotected sexual contact between the penis and the vagina or rectum.. Remove the condom immediately after sexual intercourse and before standing up.. To avoid semen leakage the large outer ring should be twisted.. Carefully pull the condom out and dispose of it.. Condom do's and don'ts:.. DO use a condom each and every time you have sex.. DO check the expiration date.. DO use water-based or silicone-based lubricants, such as KY Jelly, Astroglide, or Eros.. DON’T use a condom more than once, and don’t use both a male and female condom.. DON’T use two condoms at the same time.. The friction between the condoms may cause them to tear.. DON’T use oil-based lubricants (like petroleum jelly or baby oil).. They can cause the condom to break.. DON’T use a condom if the individual condom packet is ripped.. Where can I get condoms?.. You can get condoms for free at.. Planned Parenthood.. clinics and most community health clinics.. You can purchase condoms from a drug store or grocery store no matter what your age.. They cost between $5 and $20 per box.. You can purchase condoms from many online retailers, including Amazon.. com and Drugstore..
